Now, without further ado, here are the best Bullet Journal supplies to get started!
The best Bullet Journal pens to buy
Personally, I’ve been using black felt tip pens ever since I started Bullet Journaling, but I’ve tried a few different brands and I have to say, I’m most satisfied with my Sakura Micron pens! I’ve used them the longest and they’re the ones I keep buying because they’re a safe bet!
They dry really fast, so no ink smudges and they come in many different sizes if you want to write bigger for titles, etc.
Also, I’ve recently acquired a Muji Gel pen in black, size 0.5, and I love it. It just writes so smoothly and consistently. I will be getting more Muji Gel pens, in other colors for sure.
If you’re not a fan of the black felt tip pens, then gel pens might be more to your liking, and I 100% recommend Muji Gel pens.
Now on to some products to add some colors to your spreads!
First off, I can’t do ONE spread without using my Zebra Mildliners! I’ve also been using these for years. If you’ve read some of my other posts, you know I swear by them! I have all 25 colors (I think? Are there more?) and I love them so much!
I bought each set of 5 separate, and now I realize what a mistake that was. Honestly, I should have simply bought the whole set right away and saved some money! I truly recommend you buy the whole set of 25 because as soon as you get some of these, you want the other colors! Trust me, I speak from experience.
Next on my list is this new product I’ve just recently discovered. They’re called Zig Clean Color Dot markers and they’re great! They’re dual-tip markers, with one end being a fine tip and the other end a “flexible dot tip”.
Basically, they allow you to easily draw dots, and depending on how much pressure you apply, the size of the dots vary. This gives me so many creative ideas! I will definitely be having some fun with these for a while.
Finally, my last essential tool to add some colors to my Bullet Journal are my Tombow Dual Brush pens.
These brush pens are really worth the hype! They come in many different shades and colors, and I don’t have them all yet. I must have at least 40 different colors! These pens are great if you want to do some brush lettering, or just add some colors to your spreads! I often use them to highlight titles.

Stickers & washis
These next few products are just perfect when you want to decorate your Bullet Journal quickly and easily.
When I first started Bullet Journaling, one of the first things I got to help me decorate my Bullet Journal were stickers. They just make it so easy to create nice, colorful spreads!
For example, I got these cool vintage travel-themed stickers. Stay tuned, I want to use them for a traveling spread in my Bullet Journal!
Next up, washis! Did you know I only discovered washi tape when I got into Bullet Journaling? I had no idea decorative tape was a thing, and boy, is it a thing! There are SO many washi tapes out there, each one adorable, you just want them all!
Stamps & stencils
I got this adorable set of flower/botanical stamps and I used them for my September 2020 Monthly log. The result was really cute and it convinced me to use stamps more often!
I seem to forget I have stamps and when I find them again, I always love the results I get in my Bullet Journal.
As for stencils, I can never have too many! I use them a lot to change up my titles when I feel like writing with a thicker font. I also love using them for shapes I’m not very good at drawing, such as banners and thought bubbles!
One last essential Bullet Journal supply I think everyone needs is a good pencil case! I carry my Bullet Journal around often, and I like to bring all my most used pens (and there are a lot). So I believe a big, sturdy pencil case is a MUST.
You probably have one hanging around at your house, in your old school stuff. But in case you don’t, here’s a cute one that looks big enough!
And that’s it! These were the best Bullet Journal supplies to get started!
