The books I want to read in the winter 2018-2019
This week, I’ve decided to share with you the books that are currently on my To-Be-Read list and that I can’t wait to get to. I will be talking about the four next books I want to read this winter (except if a new shiny book comes and distracts me…). I really hope to read more than four books this winter, but these are my priorities.
These four books came out in 2018, so they are all pretty recent.
Are you looking for book suggestions during your vacation through the Holidays? Or some gift ideas for someone who loves to read? Look no further, this post is for you!
Without further ado, here are the four books I want to read in the winter 2018-2019!
Currently reading: Becoming by Michelle Obama
I told you about this book in my post The most anticipated books of Fall 2018. Becoming hit the shelves on November 13th, 2018 and became an instant best seller. Not that surprising, since the Ex-First Lady of the United States is still very popular!
Mrs Obama shares her story, from her childhood in a poor neighbourhood in the suburb of Chicago to her life living at the most famous address in North America, but not before she tells the story of her meeting the man who would become President of the United States. Her book is honest, a breath of fresh air: I’m only halfway through, and I love it!
The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton
The book is about a murder still unsolved a century and a half later. The story is told from different perspectives over different times and from different character’s voices.
If you are just as curious as me about this novel, you can read more about it here.
I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara
I found out about this book when I went to see the results of the Goodreads Choice Awards, which are the awards for the best books of the year by category, as voted by the public. I’ll Be Gone in the Dark won the price for the best Nonfiction book.
It’s an investigative journalism book which follows the determined Mrs McNamara in her quest to uncover the serial rapist-turned-murderer who terrorized California in the 1970s and 1980s, known as the “Golden State Killer”. Mrs McNamara worked on this book for many years, going back and interrogating the victims herself and pouring over all the police records. Sadly, she suddenly passes away in 2016 before completing the book. Her husband and a fellow author finally publish it posthumously in February 2018.
I’m a big fan of everything True Crime so this book really called to me. I can’t wait to read it!
Sidenote: The Golden State Killer, suspected of at least 50 rapes and nearly a dozen murders, was finally arrested in April 2018 and is awaiting trial. (P.S.: the way he was found out is super interesting)
Give Me Your Hand by Megan Abbott
Megan Abbott is one of my favorite authors and I have read many of her books. This book was released in July, but since I already had a lot of books to read, I didn’t purchase it right away. I finally bought it and I’m pretty excited to read it.
A suspense/thriller novel. A grave secret terminates a friendship between two young girls. Years later, the two women compete for the same position in the research team of their common idol. They embark on a dangerous cat and mouse game: who will come out on top?
That’s it for my list of books that I want to read in the winter 2018-2019. It’s not very long, but very often, books suddenly get added to the list. I may end up posting a Part 2 to this list later this winter.
Are there books on this list that interest you? Or that you have already read? Let me know in the comments below!
Until next time!
